After a frustrating week of cancellations, Coleshill Town finally returned to action on Monday night. The Birmingham Senior Cup clash with Birmingham City was called off due to a mumps outbreak, and the weekend’s league fixture against Corby fell victim to the bad weather.
Thankfully, Step 5 side Coton Green stepped up to fill the gap, giving The Colemen a chance to stretch their legs—and they did so in style.
First-Half Dominance
Coleshill wasted no time asserting themselves. Just nine minutes in, Ben Usher-Shipway calmly converted from the penalty spot to open the scoring. He doubled his tally eight minutes later with a penetrating run down the left wing, cutting inside and slotting the ball neatly inside the right-hand post.
Bassit Mandey added a third on 27 minutes with a moment of deception. Shaping as if to cross, he instead unleashed a fierce strike that flew high into the corner, leaving the keeper stranded.
The fourth goal came just before the break. A well-worked attack saw the ball delivered into the box, where Harry Sweeney rose highest to head home. Coton Green did manage to pull one back before half-time, capitalising on a defensive lapse. James Henry’s looping effort beat the Coleshill keeper to make it 4–1.
Second-Half Effort
The second half may have lacked the drama of the opening 45 minutes, but the commitment from both sides never wavered. With substitutions breaking up the rhythm, Coleshill still found a moment of magic.
On 70 minutes, Gio Dainty latched onto a loose ball 20 yards from goal. His first-time strike was inch-perfect, soaring into the top corner—“where the owl sleeps”—to round off the scoring in emphatic fashion.
A Welcome Run-Out
The 5–1 win was a comfortable and confident display from The Colemen, who will be pleased to have kept sharp despite the disruption to their schedule. With goals spread across the team and attacking flair on show, Coleshill head into their next fixtures with momentum firmly on their side.
Next up on Saturday 29th November we welcome AFC Rushden & Diamonds to Pack Meadow.
