A disappointing afternoon at Pack Meadow saw Coleshill Town's recent momentum brought to a halt as Shepshed Dynamo ran out convincing 5-1 winners in the Northern Premier League Midlands Division.

After encouraging displays over the past few weeks, where the Colemen had started matches brightly and taken the game to their opponents, this contest proved to be the complete opposite. From the opening whistle, Coleshill struggled to find their rhythm and were punished for a number of costly errors.

The visitors were ahead within the opening 4 minutes after a defensive lapse resulted in a penalty, which Shepshed converted to gain an early advantage. Matters worsened shortly afterwards when after 12 minutes a misplaced headed back-pass ended up in the Coleshill net for an unfortunate own goal, leaving the home side with a mountain to climb.

Shepshed continued to capitalise on Coleshill's mistakes and added a third goal before the interval, leaving the Colemen three goals down at the break and searching for answers.

To their credit, Coleshill showed greater determination after half-time and began to enjoy more possession and territory. Their reward came when Charlie Manners won a penalty before confidently converting it himself to pull a goal back and offer a glimmer of hope.

However, any thoughts of a comeback were short-lived as defensive lapses once again proved costly. Shepshed's fourth and fifth goals were almost identical in their execution, with possession won down the left flank before dangerous balls were delivered across goal for unmarked attackers to finish at the far post.

It was an afternoon to forget for the Colemen, whose performance fell well below the standards they had set in recent matches. While there were brief signs of improvement after the break, the damage had already been done and Shepshed ruthlessly punished the mistakes on offer.

Attention now quickly turns to next Saturday's trip to league leaders Wellingborough Town. It will be another stern test for Coleshill, and one that will require a swift response if the Colemen are to bounce back from this disappointing result and return to the levels shown in recent weeks.
