Grantham Town 2 Coleshill Town 3
Northern Premier League
Another long coach trip for the faithful Coleshill Town supporters saw a patched-up side, sponsored by Tanks International, make the journey to take on high-flying Grantham Town in the Northern Premier League. With injuries continuing to test the squad, Coleshill arrived knowing they would need both character and determination against one of the division's stronger sides.
The visitors could not have wished for a better start. After settling into the game well, Daniel Gyasi fired Coleshill ahead after 14 minutes to give the travelling supporters plenty to cheer about.
Recent matches have often seen Coleshill concede shortly after taking the lead, but this time there was a different feel about the side. They remained organised, disciplined and determined, frustrating the hosts and limiting their opportunities.
Defensively, Coleshill stood firm throughout the remainder of the first half and deservedly went into the break with a 0-1 advantage.
The home side responded after the restart and drew level in the 51st minute to make it 1-1. However, the setback barely had time to sink in before Coleshill hit back immediately. A direct ball forward was collected by leading scorer Charlie Manners, who restored the visitors' lead and swung the momentum back in Coleshill's favour at 1-2.
Playing with confidence and belief, Coleshill continued to show the quality that has sometimes gone unrewarded this season. Their hard work received further reward in the 67th minute when Gyasi grabbed his second goal of the afternoon, extending the lead to 3-1 and putting the visitors firmly in control.
As the clock ticked down, Grantham were handed a route back into the contest when they converted a penalty in the 85th minute, reducing the deficit to 2-3 and ensuring a nervous finale. Despite the late pressure, Coleshill refused to buckle. The defence stood strong, the midfield worked tirelessly, and the team saw out the remaining minutes to secure a thoroughly deserved victory.
At the final whistle, the celebrations reflected the importance of the result. Three hard-earned away points against one of the league's leading sides were just reward for a committed team performance and a welcome boost for everyone connected with the club.
After the match, manager Harry praised his side's efforts:"I was really pleased with the win. Their application and work rate was excellent. We had to defend well and stood up to what Grantham threw at us.
"The referee and assistants were brilliant today. I'm a bit disappointed with conceding because the way we were playing I couldn't really see them scoring, but we caused our own problems.
"We did get a bit of luck today, but we deserved it.
"Unfortunately Mason has succumbed to his ankle injury so he may be out for a few weeks, so we need to go and find some more players to come in.
"A spirited, resilient and clinical display ensured Coleshill returned home with a valuable three points and plenty of belief as they look ahead to the next challenge.
Next up, 2 home games against Basford and Shepshed Dynamo.
